Sushanth, grandson of legendary Akkineni Nageshwara Rao, made his debut with Kalidasu last year. This summer, he is bringing another film titled Current. As he celebrating his first birthday in the capacity of a movie star, he is in jubilant mood and talks about his career in general and about his current movie in particular. Here is chitchat..
First Birthday
This is my first birthday March 18, 2009) as hero. Although I made debut as actor last year, I was nobody to general public. But this year, I am celebrating with Akkineni fans at Annapurna Studios. My birthdays were never pompous events. From this year, I am stepping into new mould and I feel very responsible too.
About Current movie
I am doing a very fun and jovial character in Current. The movie is a very commercial love story. In my debut film, Kalidasu, romance didn’t play much part. After watching Kalidasu, my grandfather said that romance should be given utmost importance in a movie and suggested to take more care in my second movie. Current has a good love thread with all the commercial ingredients. The reason why we put the title ‘Current’ is that it denotes the chemistry between a boy and a girl. We all hope that this summer there won’t be any power problems with our ‘current’.
Current status
New director Surya Pratap came up with this story and narrated it to my mother (Naga Susheela) and Srinivas Rao. All of us liked it and my mother and Srinivas Rao decided to produce it on our banner. The movie has completed its talkie part and a song. Devi Sri Prasad is giving mind-boggling numbers. He also promised that he would give the best music that can be remembered for a long time. We have to film the rest of the songs.
Chemistry with Sneha Ullal
Hope that our pair will be appreciated by one and all after the release. You can really see ‘current’ between us on screen. Scenes between us would definitely appeal to youth and women audiences. She is good co-star and fortunately I had more interaction and more scenes with her than my first co-star Tamannah.
Looking for all rounder image
It is too early to say about the image that I am craving for. I want to be known as an actor who can does all sorts of roles. An all rounder is the best image one can wish for.
Acting with Naga Chaitanya
I don’t deny the chance of acting with Naga Chaitanya (Nagarjuna’s son) but it is too early to say about it. First we have to prove ourselves. We both are good friends and did our training at same school in Mumbai. We still both train at same fighter.
Will look for my own my style…
The best compliment that I got is that from grandfather Akkineni who said that mine was the best debut in our family. He said that I have my own style. But general audiences said that my walking style and other postures are similar to Nagarjuna. I didn’t copy him but it is in my genes. I will create my own style and mannerisms after a few more films.
Will do movies for other producers too
It just happened that I am working with my own production company but that doesn’t mean I don’t do for other producers. Will certainly do for anyone who comes up with good scripts.

My grand father. He is ultimate to me.
Who influences you?
My uncle Nagarjuna.
