“It has always been my dream to be an actress and God has blessed me with what I have. I completely love it and enjoy it thoroughly and being in front of the camera gives me a real high. And people like my fans give me so much love which I really respect and thankful for”, says the gorgeous Ayesha Takia, who has already made a name for herself in the competitive world of Bollywood (a sobriquet for the Hindi film industry). This young and lovely Indian film actress hails from Chembur in the city of Mumbai in Maharashtra. She was born on April 10, 1985 into a mixed family. While her father Nishit is from the Gujrati community, her mother is an Anglo- Indian Muslim (half British and half Maharashtrian) by the name of Faridah. Natasha Takia, her younger sister, was born in the year 1988. Ayesha Takia completed her schooling in St. Anthony's High School. Since her mother has a British background, Ayesha grew up speaking English at her home. She learned Hindi and Telugu when she ventured into the world of cinema. Among actors, Ayesha Takia’s favourites are Aamir Khan and Shahrukh Khan. Sridevi and Rani Mukherji are her favorite actresses.
Ayesha Takia made her first appearance on television in the well-known Complan advertisement campaign which has the famous “I’m a Complan Boy! I'm a Complan Girl!” logo. Interestingly she worked with Shahid Kapoor in this campaign. Then she made her presence felt at the age of fifteen in Falguni Pathak’s music video Meri Chunar Udd Udd Jaye, in the song by the same name. The very next year Ayesha worked in the video, Shake It Daddy. These small achievements caught the attention of the film industry, and she was offered a few films.Ayesha’s debut film is “Taarzan: The Wonder Car” where she worked opposite another newcomer Vatsal Seth. This film is a bit different from the usual mainstream love story as it has certain supernatural elements in it. Talking about the film Ayesha says: “As an actress I want to do all roles that would inspire or challenge me. The first film that I did was not like the usual commercial flick, so I am trying to do varied roles.” Although the film failed to make a mark at the box office, Ayesha earned rave reviews for her performance.
She bagged the Filmfare Best Debut Award in the year 2004 for her performance in Taarzan. Some of the films fared poorly at the box office. But she again came to limelight in the year 2006 with her powerful performance in the low budget film Dor. In this film she plays the role of a young widowed Rajasthani woman called Meera who stays in a conventional joint family. Again in 2006, Ayesha Takia came to be considered amongst the top ten desirable women of India in a survey that was carried out by Zoom, an Indian TV channel.Apart from the two films mentioned, Ayesha has also acted in films like Dil Maange More (2004), Socha Na Tha (2005), Shaadi No. 1 (2005), Home Delivery: Aapko... Ghar Tak (2005), Shaadi Se Pehle (2006), Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota (2006), Salaam e Ishq: A Tribute To Love (2007), Kya Love Story Hai (2007), Fool and Final (2007) and No Smoking (2007). In the film No Smoking, she plays a double role. She has also been a part of a Telugu film and has made a special appearance in the Hindi Movie Cash.Ayesha Takia’s projects in 2008 constitute Sunday (which has already been released), De Taali, Wanted: Dead And Alive, and Tasveer (which is a supernatural thriller based on Manoj Night Shyamalan’s Oscar nominated movie ‘The Sixth Sense”). So far Ayesha’s award list includes the Filmfare Best Debut Award for Taarzan (2004), IIFA Star debut (2004), Star's Sabsey Favourite Nayi Heroine (2005), Star Screen Award Best Actress (Critics) for Dor (2006), Stardust Best Supporting Actress Award for Dor (2007), Bengal Film Journalists' Association Award for Dor (2007) and Zee Cine Critics Award in 2007, again for Dor. With so many awards at such an young age, this lovely lady’s career is surely on the high!
