Surender Reddy on 'Kick'

Director Surender Reddy is all smiles as his fourth film, Kick, has taken flying start and is on to become a hit. This handsome and shy director normally doesn’t like to mingle up with the media but this time he is willing to share his happiness with journos. He spoke to the media on Monday morning at RR Movie Makers’ office in Hyderabad.
How was the response for the film so far?
Tremendous. I am enjoying the success and the general feedback is so encouraging. They are enjoying the entertainment. I also believe people are really connected with emotional aspect in the flash back scene too. In fact, I made the film on that concept of a person getting contented in other’s joy.
You are known for revenge dramas. Now you switched to entertainment movies. Is it intentional to change tracks to get a hit like Vinayak did recently?
No, I have always been lover of comedy movies. I wanted to do entertaining film right after Atanokkade but my debut movie succeeded, every producer insisted on mass movies.
In all your earlier films - Athidi, Ashok and Atanokkade, action episodes stand out. Some of the action sequences are far superior than most of the regular Telugu movies. But in this flick, they are handled badly.
I made it deliberately. I wanted action sequences should not dominate the script.
The basic plot line of the movie is similar to Dhoom. Your comments!
(angrily) How could you compare with that film just because it has robbery element. There are several movies in the past with the cop and thief game. It has nothing to do with Dhoom or Gentleman.
How was it working with Ravi Teja. How did you plan Amitabh act for him?
He is so cool guy and jolly to work with. While we were shooting for the film, I happened to see his interview in a media in which he confessed that he is great fan of Amitabh and he could imitate Big B’s dialogues in chaste Hindi. That prompted me to write similar dialogues for him as there is a requirement in our film. It suited well and he does marvelously.
Through out the movie, I felt I am not really working hard due to Ravi Teja’s fun nature. He does everything in jiffy.
Ileana looked so glamorous in the movie. Comments!
Before taking her in, I had apprehensions about her performance. But just after two days of the shoot, I am convinced that she could pull off her role perfectly. She improved as actress herself and is looking glamorous as she put on weight slightly.
Whose idea it was to take Shaam in that role?
It was my intention to take some fresh guy to put against Ravi Teja. I decided on Shaam he is good looking guy and this fresh casting helped to the movie. He has done good job.
Are you really satisified with music?
Yes. Taman has future, I believe.
Tell us about your producer Venkat?
Without his belief, this film would not have been materialized. He is one producer who indulges in charity heavily. He always gives donation to orphans whenever his film releases. And our story suits the philosophy of our producer. He has given me complete freedom. It has become like home production.
Will there be a sequel to it?
Yes, we have plans.
Heard that budget has exceeded heavily?
No. We shot the movie within the market of a Ravi Teja film.
How many working days you used for the film.
About 90 days.
So what next?
I am planning a love story immediately. It will star a young hero. In a week, will announce all the details. I won’t take much gap to start my next.
What happened to your proposed movie with Sunil?
Will definitely do. Rajamouli is doing it with him now. I will plan later.
