Being a very selfish person, I didn't like walking the ramp with 101 girls. Soon I started taking up ads. I started getting offers from Chennai, Hyderabad and other places. Two ads in particular triggered a number of movie offers, one was the Fast Track Cooling Glasses ad that I did with John Abraham and the other was for No Marks cream. These got me my break in Telugu — Bujjigadu.You quit your studies in the process..My career is a priority right now but for the long run I do understand the importance of a degree. After PUC from Sindhi College, I have not been able to cope with my studies. However, I intend to build my determination and complete my graduation.You seem to prefer Telugu films now...
For me, it’s just that the languages are different. Apart from this, the films are one and the same. But there is a fact worth stating. The number of studios in Hyderabad outnumbers those in Karnataka. The reach of Andhra movies is much wider than the reach of Kannada movies. Telugu movies get dubbed in many other languages which is not true of Kannada movies. Therefore, I feel that Telugu movies has a lot to give me. I will get a lot of exposure through Telugu movies and I am looking forward to working in many more of them. But rather than segregating movies on basis of regions, it really depends more on script. If I find the script to be interesting, then I don’t mind taking up roles in different languages.Are you comfortable with any kind of role now?t is very important for an actress to analyse herself. After playing the role of a sexy girl in my debut movie, people perceived me as bad. But since, I believe in experimenting with the roles, I am ready to explore. Personally speaking, I feel that I have the ‘girl-next-door’ streak in me. This is why I am waiting for a woman-oriented script. I am quite open to glamourous roles but not steamy and sexy ones.
What about Hindi films?
Right now, I am content with the kind of movies that I am getting in Kannada and Telugu. There are innumerable offers flowing from there. The Telugu film industry, especially, is very welcoming. I also might get into Tamil movies in a short while. So for now, I am not thinking of setting my foot in Bollywood.
Rumour says you are dating Bangalore Royal Challenger batsman Virat Kohli. Is it true?
(Smiles) We are just good friends. I am too young to get into a relationship.
What’s next for you?
I have three films coming up this year — Ee Sanje in Kannada, Police Police and Samardhudu in Telugu. The release of the movies have been delayed due to IPL matches. Samardhudu is an out-and-out Telugu film; Krishnamraju, the legendary actor, is the biggest USP of the movie. The film is going to feature five songs and I am really looking forward to it. Apart from this, I just intend to go in the flow and have fun. I hope that my films do well and I get highly recognised. I can opt for modelling too, but only if I am the showstopper or the brand ambassadress.
